The home, created by architect Chuong Cao and interior designer Darryl Carter combines natural light, transparency and a connection to the landscape that are harmonious. Located in the U Street Historic District, the design and renovation of the mid-block victorian was one of simplicity, meant to enhance natural lighting and views. Design elements include sliding walls, glass walls and floating stair treads. These features maximize light and provided picturesque views of the rear yard. Floor-to-ceiling window walls define the south facing facade. The interior and exterior spaces were designed and constructed of quarter sawn white oak and limestone with etched glass and galvanized steel creating a soft palate blurring the line between landscape and interior space. Two bedroom, two-and-a-half bathrooms, one-car EV parking (garage), additional storage, whole-home Lutron lighting and window treatments. The rear yard is used exclusively by the homeowner.
