For walkability and an easy commute, you may want to consider taking your home search to Old Dominion. For many, this most residential Arlington neighborhood offers not only a fantastic location, but also a true neighborhood feel.

Some local residents have lived in the neighborhood for decades, and recently they’ve seen more and more families with young children make the move to Old Dominion, as well. The neighborhood of Old Dominion is comprised of more than 400 households today.

Buyers can choose from brick Colonials dating back to the 1940s and 1950s, plus you may even find some old Queen Annes and some large farmhouses in Old Dominion. Characterized by a number of catalog homes, besides Colonials, other common home styles in the neighborhood tend to be Cape Cods.

In addition, some of the older homes in the neighborhood have since been torn down and replaced by newer construction. Although the neighborhood tends to still be mostly single-family homes today, you will now find some condos, apartments and even some established townhomes in the neighborhood.

Within walking distance of nearby shops, it’s just as easy for residents of Old Dominion to hop on a bike or catch a bus to the closest Metro station. Although there isn’t a Metro station specifically in the neighborhood itself, it’s still close enough to cut down on the commute.

You’ll find some of the closest locally-owned shops, restaurants and other businesses just across Lee Highway in Lee Heights Shops. In recent years the Old Dominion Citizens’ Association began working with other agencies to plan out the neighborhood’s future concerning parks, traffic, land use and beautification projects.

Part of this included creating a park in the neighborhood for recreation and to be used as a gathering place. The Association also made plans to improve sidewalks, curbs, street lighting and neighborhood signage.
