Hawthorne is a residential neighborhood of approximately 250 homes located in the Northwest Quadrant of Washington, DC. The neighborhood was primarily developed in the 1950s and features an eclectic mix of colonials, rambler, split level and mid-century modern homes. The community draws its name from the abundance of hawthorn trees that were previously found throughout the community.
Residents enjoy direct access to Rock Creek Park which borders Hawthorne to the east. The Pinehurst Tributary, which borders Hawthorne to the south and serves as a divider with the neighboring Barnaby Woods, offers another quiet respite for dog walking, hiking an biking.
Hawthorne is bounded by Western Avenue to the west, Oregon Avenue to the east and Beech Street to the south.
