Tilden Gardens: The Greenest Complex in Town

Perhaps the greenest complex in town, Tilden Gardens truly lives up to its name. Set in DC’s Cleveland Park neighborhood, the property consists of a full three acres of landscaped gardens alone, joined by six buildings connected via walkways.

Originally constructed in the late 1920s as one of DC’s largest apartment co-ops, Tilden Gardens remains one of the most visually attractive communities in the city today. On the list of Goode’s Best Addresses, the property is more the exception than the norm when it comes to multi-family residences.

While many properties of the same time period were designed to devote a much larger percentage of the land to actual buildings than green space, at Tilden Gardens much of the land was preserved for open space. That’s why you’ll still find tall towering shade trees throughout the campus, along with plenty of flowering shrubs and landscaping for residents to enjoy. The peaceful, park-like setting is a true delight for those interested in a DC-area co-op.

Containing a mix of floor plans, some of the apartments of Tilden Gardens offer up to three exposures per unit. Residents are also treated to such architectural additions as high ceilings, arched doorways and hardwood floors. Some units have also been more recently refreshed to include modern features and finishes such as granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances.

The Tilden Gardens campus also includes some garage parking, bicycle storage, several hobby rooms and on-site laundry. The property additionally offers some guest apartments and a party room, along with, of course, the terraced gardens for which the property is best known.

The desirable location at the corner of Tilden Street and Connecticut Avenue NW makes it easy to walk to two different Metro stations, the zoo and Rock Creek Park, or to indulge in the many options in nearby dining, shopping and entertainment.
