The Wharf: DC’s Newest Destination
As the DC area’s newest destination, The Wharf aims to entice visitors with an inspirational setting, including exciting new restaurants, shops, recreational opportunities and entertainment. Set to officially open this October with phase 1, the first residents of The Wharf move in next month.
With a bountiful selection of well-known retailers and local boutiques, The Wharf generates a new and vibrant selection of shopping options. As well, the site also boasts a concert hall, with the planned addition of live music, outdoor movies, boat parades and art shows, with a range of other additional planned activities and events. Meanwhile, planned dining options range from casual cafes to gourmet, fine dining establishments.
For recreation, there are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water, from sailing lessons and rentals to entertainment cruises. The location also rents out paddleboards and kayaks for exploring the river on your own. As well, you can easily catch a water taxi or boaters can soon enjoy one of the location’s day docks, available this fall.
Other recreation ranges from a wintertime ice skating rink to free yoga overlooking the riverfront. There are also a number of fitness classes to be held here, plus area residents and visitors can take a relaxing stroll along the promenade.
Not to be overlooked, the area boasts ten acres of open green space and parks, plus a village green. There are four piers, the largest being District Pier.
Added to this, there will also eventually be several residential options at The Wharf, including apartments and condos. The first condo community is 525 Water; right next to Waterfront Park and a short walk from the Metro.
While phase one of the development opens soon, the second phase of development at The Wharf is expected to be finished in 2021. Eventually, the project aims to include 14 signature buildings, all linked by public space and parks, with a unique waterside setting.
