Sought After DC Condo Amenities
If you’re in the market for a new DC condo you’ve probably already come up with your own list of what you want in your new place. If an in-unit laundry room is on your list, you’re in good company.
According to the Zumper real estate listing website, that’s the most sought-after amenity for DC condo dwellers. The website looked at the search terms of users nationwide, then broke it down city by city.
While more and more new buildings are starting to offer trendier amenities such as yoga studios and dog-washing stations, the analysis by Zumper suggests DC tenants have much more basic needs. Along with in-unit laundry, Washington DC tenants also seem particularly interested in a DC condo with a dishwasher and air-conditioning.
Some also wanted to know whether the unit had a balcony and came furnished. That’s not surprising due to the city’s high turnover of government workers.
Other studies have found similar results. In particular, a report last year from Apartment List discovered many DC residents aren’t searching for balconies, a gym, a swimming pool or a dog-friendly setting. Despite this, many properties do include these amenities.
According to Apartment List, the need for an in-unit washer and dryer is something they’re seeing across the nation. While about 65-percent of renters in the District voiced a desire for this amenity, the study found only about 26-percent of rental properties have this feature. The number is slightly higher when looking more broadly at the DC area.
RENTCafe recently suggested renters are more split on the necessity of in-unit laundry.
Nevertheless, for many it’s a strong consideration. This comes at a time when rental properties are thinking up new and creative ways to attract tenants, from lazy rivers to massage therapy, glass bottom swimming pools and even the addition of a trash valet.
