Shirlington is An Urban Village in Arlington
One of the hot neighborhoods in the DC metro area is Shirlington, an Arlington neighborhood known for its convenient shopping, dining choices, Tony-winning live theater, a movie theater, a regional public library, a farmer’s market, and a Harris Teeter gourmet grocery store. There are also plenty of hiking and biking trails, several gyms for working out and even a dog park. Shirlington is located just 5 miles southwest of DC near Shirley Highway (I-395). This urban village combines Shirley and Arlington to get its unique name, Shirlington. I-395 to the east, King Street to the south, and Walter Reed Drive border it to the west, and Four Mile Run Drive to the north all make up its boundaries. For transportation needs in lieu of driving, residents can take one of several Metro buses that will take you in and out of DC, as well as regular Arlington buses and Capital Bikeshare is a popular program.
There are many homes located within walking distance of shops, over 20 restaurants and coffee shops, and plenty of outdoor open green spaces. One of the newest condominium buildings is the Shirlington Village Condominiums that features 2 bedroom/2 bathroom units, located at 2720 S. Arlington Mill Drive. Another, Shirlington Crest Townhomes, at 3507 S. Four Mile Run Drive, has homes up to 4 bedrooms. Many of Shirlington’s properties are townhouse communities, such as Windgate Village, Heatherlea Homes, The Arlington and Court Bridge Homes. A popular place to live is Fairlington, a neighborhood within walking distance of Shirlington’s shops and dining. It offers condos and townhomes.
The pedestrian promenade, the Village at Shirlington, is the heart of the neighborhood with top restaurants like Busboys & Poets, Guapo’s, Capitol City Brewing Company and our favorite, Carlyle Grande Café serving award-winning food. There is no need to go downtown when these high-energy bistros are located in your neighborhood. Many of the restaurants have large patios to enjoy whenever the weather permits. There are also shops here that make life easier with everyday conveniences: bank, UPS Store, hair salon, nail salon, Pilates, Post Office, Spa, bakery cheese shop, toy store and more.
