Senator McCaskill Buys at CityCenter
Who wouldn’t want to live next door to a U.S. Senator? Among the political elite in DC, one of the most powerful members of Congress, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) bought a $2.7 million condo in early February at the Residences at CityCenter. McCaskill and her husband will soon move into the tony mixed-use development in in the Penn Quarter.
Units have ranged from $417,000 to $1.7 million and Sen. McCaskill’s sale is the priciest condo unit to sell to date at the upscale Residences at CityCenter. More than 50 condos have sold so far out of 216 in this brand new mixed-use development. McCaskill and her husband have sold their previous Washington condominium on Massachusetts Avenue, NW, which they bought for $700,000 in 2007. She made a big gain on the sale: the condo sold for $750,000 and almost $123,000 above its assessed value.
The condo units at the Residences at CityCenter are well appointed with high-end features like Moteni Cabinets and Miehle appliances in the kitchen. Amenities for the building include a fitness center with private spa services and a yoga room; multiple terraces throughout the building; and a party room with private wine storage. The mixed-use development will have retail on the ground floor, including Kate Spade, Tumi and Daniel Boulud’s DBGB Bar & Kitchen restaurant.
The Residences at CityCenter is the latest brand new high-end condominium project in downtown DC near the Convention Center in Penn Quarter. The condos have been quickly since the building’s December opening. Developer Hines has said that 70% of its condos were already bought or under contract.
