the cooper - 2007 wyoming ave nw

For reimagined Georgian luxury in Kalorama, it’s time to come home to The Cooper. The enchanting property is a recent conversion project that took a late 1800s-era Georgian-style mansion and re-made it into 17 condominium homes.

Prior to the condos, the grand home was used as a bed-and-breakfast. For condo owners, The Cooper adds the advantage of plenty of charm and more than a century of character.

The gracious property comes with a large front porch, a lawn and gardens. Set far back from the street, the exterior of the brick building easily blends in with the surrounding neighborhood, while its interior is distinctly modern in design.

No two units are exactly the same in The Cooper. Some units come with a balcony or patio, while other units

chinese embassy - adams morgan

While there are certainly some impressive homes in DC to choose from, some buyers are instead choosing to bring new life to some long-standing residences. Some Washingtonians are hard at work, turning some of the city’s former foreign embassies into private homes.

One such example includes the former Libyan Embassy in Kalorama. Built close to the turn-of-the-century, the home was designed in a Flemish Revival style.

It had been unoccupied for about 25 years and was in poor shape at the time a new owner came into the picture. A real estate developer had previously attempted to turn the property into condos, but when that fell through, the building went up back up for sale and a family snapped it up.

After nearly a year of making plans and

chevy chase - washington dc

You’ve probably heard of them, but have you ever wondered how some of DC’s neighborhoods got their names? From tropical islands to smog, it seems DC neighborhoods all have a story of their own.

Pleasant Plains

Sure, it brings to mind a “pleasant” place to live, and that may be exactly what led to the name Pleasant Plains in the first place. Back in the 1700s it’s said that a farmer bought up a large amount of undeveloped land where the neighborhood now sits. His family named part of their estate Pleasant Plains, which it remains to this day.

Kalorama

Kalorama may sound unusual to some, but that’s because it’s Greek. Kalorama actually means beautiful view in Greek. A poet in the early 1800s coined the name for the house he lived in because

kalorama - washington dc

While Beverly Hills is home to large homes and movie stars, Kalorama may just be its DC counterpart. The affluent community is currently home to some big names itself, including several wealthy political elites.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is just one billionaire with ties to Kalorama. Bezos owns a 27,000 square foot mansion in the community. While he made news with the $23 million purchase price, it’s the renovation that continues to put the property over the top.

The former Textile Museum is currently in the midst of a $12 million renovation and expansion project, expected to transform two homes at the site into a single home with 11-bedrooms and 25-baths. In addition, the project also includes two kitchens and elevators, five living rooms, two

the westmoreland - 2122 california ave nw dc

A premiere setting and admirable views perhaps equally match the elegance of The Westmoreland. On the list of Goode’s Best Addresses, the Kalorama property first opened up as a rental apartment building around the turn-of-the-century, but it took nearly 50 years before the building was eventually converted into a co-op. To this day it remains one of the most impressive and coveted early apartment houses in the area.

As it did in its early years, the Beaux-arts style property still allows for impressive District views from the luxury of the common rooftop deck or the private residences, themselves. Set right along California Street, the building now houses 60 private residential units, rising up six-stories above the surrounding neighborhood.
