The Westchester Cooperative - 3900 & 4000 Cathedral Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016

The Westchester co-operative, designed by highly regarded architect Harvey Warwick, harks back to a time of refined elegance. An elegant and comfortable place to call home, The Westchester was built in 1931 on one of the highest points in the city and is included among James Goode’s “Best Addresses.”

The Westchester is a luxury complex of two buildings with over 500 grand residences, ranging from studios to four bedrooms. Many co-op apartments have views overlooking the National Cathedral, Glover Park, or city views. The gracious common spaces and landscaped gardens set the bar high for sophisticated living in DC.

The development includes on-premise amenities such as a market, well-appointed lobby, fitness center, dining room, on-site parking, dry cleaner, hair salon, barbershop, guest suites, and library that hosts special literary events but also allows residents to check out books. The dining room serves brunch, lunch, dinner, and hosts holiday meals. The Westchester is the only cooperative building in DC with its own dining room. The dining room features well-balanced and varied menus. Waiters can bring meals to residents in their co-op apartments, as well. Guest suites are available for exclusive use of guests of Westchester residents. The beautiful Westchester Gardens include a 3-level sunken garden and 10 acres of greenery.

The Westchester cooperative is self-governing with an elected Board and many committees for member-owner residents to get involved. The Westchester has many social opportunities through a concert series and speaking series, monthly happy hours, and activities; a regular newsletter keeps residents abreast of what’s new in the building and community. Residents are also connected with an internal Internet listserv that allows neighbors to connect with each other to request a walking partner, recommend a dining spot, get a recommendation for a doctor, and so forth.

Located at 3900 & 4000 Cathedral Avenue, NW, The Westchester is positioned on the southwest corner of Cathedral Avenue at Idaho Avenue. This location is adjacent to the Glover Archbold Park within walking distance of the shopping, dining and entertainment found in both Glover Park and Georgetown.
