DC Ranks High Nationally For Recreational Activities
DC ranks in the Top 10 in the U.S. for best recreation and living an active lifestyle, according to a study done by Nerdwallet. DC is tops for offering a variety of recreational activities, and if you value exercise and personal health, then DC should be high on your list when choosing a place to live.
Coming in 8th place out of data culled from 95 U.S. cities and chasing 1st place Minneapolis, DC has first-rate facilities that meet the need of every resident: playgrounds, gyms, fitness centers, community gardens, athletic fields, pools, tennis courts, and senior adult centers.
DC’s Department of Parks and Recreation was hailed for its family-oriented programs as well as facilities: it offers Outdoor Explorer Family Adventures for families to explore the natural areas around the city. DC’s large number of athletic fields provides sites for adult basketball, flag football, kickball and softball, while kids can participate in many sports as well.
There are other outdoor activities throughout the city as well: walk along the National Mall to see the Monuments and Memorials; play Frisbee or volleyball on the National Mall; hike, bike or take a walk on the C&O Canal Towpath along the Potomac River; visit the National Arboretum; browse through the National Gallery of Art’s outdoor sculpture garden, and in the winter skate on the ice rink; explore nature at Great Falls Park just past the Beltway; enjoy the Farmers Markets on Capitol Hill and Dupont Circle; and stroll through National Zoo for free.
