DC Neighborhoods Muscling Away Georgetown Foodies
Georgetown’s popular M Street corridor is no longer the only option in town, as more and more foodies are starting to branch out, exploring the many new opportunities available in other DC area neighborhoods. While Georgetown boasted nearly four-dozen restaurants about a decade ago, some reports suggest that number’s now been cut in half.
While some blame rising retail rents in Georgetown as driving out some of the establishments, other DC area neighborhoods appear to be reaping the benefits of new attention. Places such as The Wharf, H Street, Logan Circle and Columbia Heights are all said to be drawing in new dining options, as are some newly emerging neighborhoods such as Brookland and Petworth.
New options for diners include Bloomingdale, with its collection of more affordably priced restaurants. There’s also Columbia Heights, with popular options ranging from Filipino cuisine to adventurous Lao food.
In addition, foodies are sure to admire the small, yet inventive, choices within the H Street corridor. From the long lines at the ramen restaurant to an ever-changing selection of shared plates and cocktails, the area boasts a lot of variety.
Meanwhile, Dupont Circle is more than just fast-casual food. The area also enjoys a popular organic restaurant, a secluded garden space, Greek food and an oyster bar. Yet still, you’ll also find more laid-back Barracks Row, with options including small plate restaurants, high-priced selections and popular New Orleans-inspired cuisine.
Adams Morgan, in contrast, is celebrated for delivering everything from pizza and people watching to barbecue, French and Mediterranean-style meals. For more inventive international concoctions, head to Logan Circle, serving up everything from tapas to French food and raw seafood.
Finally, the Shaw neighborhood serves up everything from French and Mexican fare to pizza and drinks. No matter what you’re craving, it seems several DC neighborhoods are on the up-and-up when it comes to muscling away foodies to experience all of the latest offerings.
