On the site of DC’s former Convention Center, CityCenter brings the sophistication of modern city living to the heart of downtown DC in a nearly $1 billion mixed-use project near the White House. The downtown development, upon completion, will offer a pedestrian-friendly living/shopping/office complex in the middle of DC’s commercial, cultural, arts, and entertainment center. Located within a couple of blocks of 2 popular Metro stations (Metro Center and Gallery Place) and the new Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Phase I of this development includes 2 condominium buildings, 2 apartment buildings and 2 office buildings with retail stores on the street level as well as an underground parking garage for residents.
Expected to fully open on February 28, CityCenter is nearing completion and expected to produce some of the most expensive and luxurious downtown condos in DC. Bounded by 9th and 11th Streets, NW, to the east and west, and by H Street NW to the south, this represents one of the largest mixed-use developments being built in the U.S. A sales office is open on the 3rd floor of 901 New York Avenue, NW, across the street. Only 216 luxury condos have been built with stunning open layouts.
The condos are called The Residences at CityCenter with top quality design focusing on air and light to conform to DC’s legal height limit. The British internationally renowned architecture firm of Foster and Partners designed the project. Under development by Hines, a developer known in DC and internationally for mixed-use projects, the project will be environmentally responsible and designed for sustainability and efficiency. CityCenter DC will integrate the downtown fabric and connect downtown with surrounding neighborhoods. There will be two other phases of the project: Phase II will contain a 10-story 350-room hotel and additional retail space. Phase III will bring office and more retail space. As part of its agreement with DC, a public park along New York Avenue, NW will be restored and hold public entertainment at a courtyard between the 4 residential buildings. I Street, NW, will re-open and a pedestrian corridor will run through the center of the project.
