Bucknell Manor -- Affordability in the heart of Alexandria
For affordability in the heart of Alexandria, Bucknell Manor provides the perfect location and price point. Located just to the south of Old Town, buyers have hundreds of options to choose from in a well-established, neighborhood setting.
While the subdivision originally began well more than a half-century ago with “starter” homes, some of those homes have since been expanded, or even replaced with larger residences over the years. Still, the price point has remained relatively affordable, even for a three- or four-bedroom home in the area.
Most of the original homes built in Bucknell Manor were detached, Cape Cod-style homes with around 1,000 square feet of living space. The homes came with hardwood floors, in four different designs.
Since that time, some homeowners have added on things like fireplaces, decks and garages. Others have created even larger homes to fit their individual lifestyle needs.
Minus any additions, a basic home in Bucknell Manor still commands a lower price point than many others in the region. While some of the residents of Bucknell Manor have lived in the area for years, the neighborhood does still attract some younger residents.
A new playground opened in Bucknell Manor Park just a couple of years ago, offering some of the neighborhood’s youngest residents a place to explore. Of course, a major draw of living in, or moving to, Bucknell Manor is its convenience.
The neighborhood exists within walking distance of local schools, the library, shops and public transportation. It’s also a short walk from a local marina, swimming pool and skating rink for outdoor fun and recreation.
Other area attractions include a nearby golf course, along with the popular Mount Vernon Trail for biking and walking. Perhaps the biggest attraction of all, though, is living close to the shopping, dining and historic possibilities of Old Town Alexandria.
