Barnaby Woods: Where Suburbia Meets the District

The beautiful, entirely residential neighborhood of Barnaby Woods with its shady paths, canopy of trees reaching over the streets, and flowery shrubs offers a bucolic atmosphere with all the advantages of a location in the District.  Barnaby Woods is a neighborhood in the upper Northwest quadrant of Washington, DC wedged between Rock Creek Park and the Montgomery County, MD state line.  It’s the best of both worlds here: living in DC while feeling like you’re in the suburbs.  Barnaby Woods is bounded by Western Avenue to the west, Beech Street to the north, Oregon Avenue to the east, and Tennyson Avenue to the south.

Housing consists mostly of 1930s two-story colonial homes on large parcels of land while maintaining the original beauty of the location; the homes are distinctive in their elegant proportions, custom exterior trim and paneled shutters.  Barnaby Woods residents rave about the walkability of their neighborhood among the tree-lined streets, especially for those who walk their dog. Residents enjoy running and bike trails in Rock Creek Park.

The child-friendly neighborhood is a place where kids ride their bikes and walk to school.  Barnaby Woods homeowners are in the following DC Schools: Lafayette Elementary School, Deal Middle School and Wilson High School. At Lafayette Elementary, 91% of the school’s students met or exceeded math standards last year.  The Halloween party and parade in Barnaby Woods is an annual tradition in Barnaby Woods.

The closest Metro station, Friendship Heights, is two miles away; however, Metrobus serves the area with stops on Utah Avenue then to the Metro station.  By car, access to downtown via Nebraska Avenue and Rock Creek Park is a straight drive.
