 tilden gardens - washington dc

Perhaps the greenest complex in town, Tilden Gardens truly lives up to its name. Set in DC’s Cleveland Park neighborhood, the property consists of a full three acres of landscaped gardens alone, joined by six buildings connected via walkways.

Originally constructed in the late 1920s as one of DC’s largest apartment co-ops, Tilden Gardens remains one of the most visually attractive communities in the city today. On the list of Goode’s Best Addresses, the property is more the exception than the norm when it comes to multi-family residences.

While many properties of the same time period were designed to devote a much larger percentage of the land to actual buildings than green space, at Tilden Gardens much of the land was preserved for open space.

While Beverly Hills is home to large homes and movie stars, Kalorama may just be its DC counterpart. The affluent community is currently home to some big names itself, including several wealthy political elites.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is just one billionaire with ties to Kalorama. Bezos owns a 27,000 square foot mansion in the community. While he made news with the $23 million purchase price, it’s the renovation that continues to put the property over the top.

truxton circle - washington dcPhoto: Elvert Barnes

A combination of the old and the new, Truxton Circle presents a variety of enviable options for prospective residents in Northwest DC. Don’t let the name fool you, though, the Truxton Circle of today doesn’t resemble a circle at all.

While private vehicles and streetcars once had to travel around a traffic circle of the same name, it was actually removed more than 70 years ago. Never-the-less, the name stuck and is still used generations later.

One thing that hasn’t changed much is the historic appeal of Truxton Circle. You’ll still find mostly modest row houses, some of which date back to the 19th century. You’ll also find some built around the turn-of-the-century, complete with small porches and desirable bay windows.
