h street corridor washington dc

A thriving and bustling DC commercial district in the mid-1800s, H Street later fell into disrepair, transforming itself into an area known more for its boarded-up buildings and affordability than its abundant offerings. These days, however, the one-and-a-half mile stretch known as the H Street Corridor has once again come of age with a revitalization project some never even envisioned as possible.

The former site of the old Apollo Theater is now being transformed into a more than 400-unit apartment building with the first tenants scheduled to move in this fall. Meanwhile, a massive Whole Foods store is also under development, marking, as some developers see it, just one more important indication that the area is full of potential. A nearby

Union Market

Once an industrial district and later home to dozens of wholesale supply stores, Florida Avenue Market is now being transformed into trendy apartments and a true shopping destination by developers eager to construct new condos, apartments and office space in the area. Future plans could be impacted, however, by a group advocates who hope to preserve the area’s architecture before it’s changed forever.

Located between New York and Florida Avenues NE, the focus is on the remaining warehouses that dot the area. Advocates maintain the buildings represent the history of DC’s industrial era, one that is quietly disappearing from an area not especially known for housing a lot of industry. Not only do advocates want the Depression-era structures included

His contract is worth $64 million, and provides a four-year deal with the team.

The largest Whole Foods in the region is set to open in 2019 while the area’s also preparing to welcome its first Wegmans the same year. Proponents say two major grocery stores will help immensely in delivering a more residential-friendly vibe to Tysons Corner.
