Ballston
Conveniently located south of I-66, the Ballston, Virginia, neighborhood combines a number of condo developments with a growing mix of retail and office buildings. Despite its easy access to the Metro and a number of conveniences, the area also features a number of parks, trails, and wide open spaces, adding to its allure for young professionals.
Ballston has the dubious distinction of having had the first “pay” parking garage in the 50s and still retains a small town flavor with some of its older shops. Anchor stores include the Ballston Mall as well as the Giant grocery store and Harris Teeter.
The housing stock is dominated by high-rise condo developments such as Alta Vista and the Monroe, intermingled with a few townhouses. New condo developments are continuing to spring up but the few single family homes in Ballston have traditionally been rehabbed or razed to make way for newer homes on the same lot.
Located west of the Clarendon neighborhood, north of Ashton Heights, Ballston is roughly bounded on the north by I-66, on the south by Wilson Boulevard, and on the east by Kirkwood Road and the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and N 10th Street.
Ballston is served by the Ballston and Virginia Square Metro Stops on the Orange Line.
