Townhouse Construction Gains Momentum in DC

Mirroring recent national statistics released by the National Association of Home Builders, new townhouse construction in the District is gaining momentum as the real estate market rebounds. On a national basis, new townhouse starts represent approximately 11% of all residential single-family housing starts. Here in the District, longtime DC builder EYA has a twenty-year track record of building urban townhouses. Past EYA projects have dramatically shaped several DC neighborhoods including Hillandale at the northern edge of Georgetown, Bryan Square Townhomes on Capitol Hill and Harrison Square Townhomes in the U Street Corridor.Current EYA projects in the District include Chancellor's Row in Edgewood and close to the Brookland Metro Station. EYA is also building new townhomes at Capitol Quarter in the Capitol Riverfront. Both of these projects are have significant scale and are truly defining their respective neighborhoods.DC is also home to a significant stock of late 19th century townhouses that we in the industry call row houses. Many streets throughout the District feature blocks of row houses that have been restored to their original grandeur. Here is a resource to view DC row houses organized by specific District neighborhoods.

EYA has a twenty-year track record of building townhomes in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. The firm has been recognized over the years with numerous awards for their unique and innovative projects. In the District, EYA was tackled substantial urban infill projects that have proven to be neighborhood defining projects. Currently, EYA is building out Capitol Quarter in the Capitol Riverfront District. This community of 208 townhomes along seven city blocks is the nation's largest LEED for Homes community. Phase I of this project sold out quickly and Phase II will go on sale during the summer of 2010.EYA redeveloped the old Children's Hospital property in the U Street Corridor into Harrison Square Townhomes. This popular 98 unit project has covers an entire city block with classic DC rowhouse architecture. On Capitol Hill, EYA redeveloped the Bryan School property with 38 luxury townhomes in a project know as Bryan Square Townhomes. Earlier, EYA constructed townhomes in the NW DC luxury gated community of Hillandale.
