The Alta: DC's First Green Condo Development

The Alta at Thomas Circle, delivered in 2006 by PN Hoffman, was DC's first LEED Certified residential condo building. From low VOC paints, low-E glass, compact fluorescent lighting, water saving appliances and a wonderful rooftop garden, the Alta set a high standard for green building in the District.

Urban modernism adeptly defines the architecture of the Alta development. The modern building facade features floor to ceiling windows and a rooftop steel pergola which supports climbing plants.  Unique developer interior design elements at the Alta included acrylic privacy panels, aged birch frameless cabinets, brick walls, bamboo flooring, 9-ft exposed concrete ceilings, track lighting and exposed ductwork.

The inventory of DC condo foreclosures is a bit light right now, but there are a couple of interesting options on the market in newer upscale developments.
