Strivers' Section: Historic Dupont Neighborhood

Strivers' Section is a historic district in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The historic district includes about 430 buildings constructed in the late 19th and early 20th century.  Many of these buildings are single-family homes designed with Edwardian architectural style.

Strivers' Section is located in close proximity to Howard University and was home to many of DC's more affluent and notable African American residents including Frederick Douglas, architect Calvin Brent, Recorder of Deeds James Dacey and banker James Storum.  Today, Strivers' Section is a dynamic, diverse neighborhood and many of its homes have been beautifully renvoted and restored.

This Victorian row house, located in the 16th Street Historic District, was designed by Nicholas Haller and originally constructed in 1890. The Chastleton - Modern City Living Steeped in History

How many Washingtonians can claim that General Douglas MacArthur used to live in their building?  If you are one of the 300 owners at the Chastleton, you can unequivocally answer yes!  While sharing a roof with the ghost of a WWII General doesn't carry as much weight as living with Lady Gaga, Lebron or Anderson Cooper......it is still pretty cool.

1841 16th - Historic Dupont Restoration at 16th & T

A wonderful restoration is underway at the corner of 16th Street NW and T Street in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.  Potomac Construction Group is restoring 1841 16th Street into three luxury condos with delivery scheduled for August 2010.  Luxury finishes include Pedini Kitchens, designer appliances and bamboo flooring.

Located in the 16th Street Historic District, 1841 16th was designed by prominent DC architect Nicholas Haller.   Constructed in 1890, the building serves as the architectural keystone for the six buildings on this corner.  Before the renovation, this property was formerly known as the" Demon House,"  due to the state of disrepair it had fallen into.  In June of 2008, residents of the property were evacuated after an interior wall in…
